  • i have one felony custodial assault charge from 1993, plus several loitering for the purposes of prostitiution/prostitution charges -misdemeanors, and a few simple assault charges -misdemeanors from 1989-1993 and one simple assault charge 1996 -a misdemeanor and obstruction of justice charge in 1996 -a misdemeanor. no more charges except for two dismissed felony forgery charges from 2005. since 1989, i have not been able to find hardley any work, and i have been living in poverty level ever since i changed my life style, in 1995, of petty crimes. i think that part of the problem is that i needed job training classes such as: resume, cover letters, interview skills, and internships. another small part of the problem is that is seems once the trust in society has been broken (in any relationship for that matter) it is hard to earn a clean reputation again. after talking to many people, it seems that a portion of our society believes that people do not change they only change their story and attitude. although for some ex-cons, this may be a true statement. nevertheless, there are people like me, who are sincere about reintering mainstream and the work force, that such a belief system oppresses me right along with those who are still trying or claiming they have changed when maybe they have not. thus, i do not feel it is fair that every time someone who has not been rehabilitated or has not made a change in his or her life does something wrong in society has to effect me or that if i do make a mistake people treat me like i am a villian from the worst prison in town. i am only human. what about my health. where i sleep at night is a womens shelter. how i support my self is through food stamps and part-time temporary work. temporary agencies have been finding it hard to send me to a full time regular job no matter how hard i try. i do have a lot more to say about this but my main point is where are these job training classes, work shops that really will work for me.where are the employer that will give me a chance and allow me to reintegrate my self back in to society? even though i need them right now, i am tired of homeless shelters, free food kitchens and food stamps. i want my independent life style back where i have as many opportunities to work as anyone else. i need employment. where do i find it?

  • You lived like a complete criminal for years ......... made your own bed and are now lying in it , and you want your "independent life style back where i have as many opportunities to work as anyone else."

Who is going to hire someone that could blow their top at any time and injure their employees , or worse ? Even if they wanted to , their insurance policy would probably forbid it !

I`ll tell you right now .... job training classes and such won`t amount to much , if anything in your present situation .

I`d say your first step should be getting your record expunged , if possible . If you can do that , you`ll have a good chance of accomplishing what you want , if you want it bad enough .

If for any reason you can`t get it expunged , you`d better get used to living as you are for as long as you live .

  • I know how u feel, the years may be different but I'm going through the same thing except Im fortunate enough not to be homeless. Society doesn't give u another chance when u get a felony on your record or sometimes even a serious misde. it's impossible to find a job. i do know for a fact that walmart will hire u with a felony on your background. But anyway since yours is older than 10 years I thought u didn't have to disclose after that? Like I was saying felonies for evryone but the Martha Strewarts of the world is pretty much a death sentence as far as employment goes, and not to give anyone an excuse but what the hell do they expect people to do they get out of jail/probation and try to look for a job no one wants them. how many doors can a person stand to be closed you get tired of the rejection so what happens u turn back to a life of crime u have a family to support, u have to eat, what else can u do at least thats the way u try to reason. I lastly want to say it takes a strong person to turn away from that u as well as I know if it wasnt for our desire to try to stay on the right track u could make money. stay strong peace.

  • I would google David Wilkerson. Their association will give you a chance to get back on your feet. Also, you might think of trying Volunteers of America to help you get an apartment and to set you on your feet. If you can type and do computer work, start in your apartment typing papers for University kids who will pay per page. Think of buying your own computer and starting your own business. There is nothing better than typing papers in your own apartment and drinking coffee or tea when you decide it is break time! Try to get in touch with Volunteers of America. Think positive, Call David Wilkerson!
