  • What does ex- mean in these post headings, as in 'ex-WAS' or 'ex-MIA'

    Thanks.

  • Be careful of the ex LAX notations...

    :p

  • ex means "from"

  • Thanks for the post. I, too, had a problem figuring out what ex. meant.

  • hmmm... and I thought it was short for "exiting"...

A very valid question. It took me some time to figure it out.

    oh.....

and, for the record, i always thought ex- meant excluding (i.e., ex-nyc would mean excluding nyc). but, flyertalk-ese means just the opposite.

My guess is that Ex meaning "from" or "out of" is from a language a little bit older than Flyertalk-ese :) :

Geez, I'm a newbie for life (trust me, just proved it all over again this long weekend), and after reading a few replies, even I figured it out

Hm, saw some insigtful posts by Andrej previously, wonder what got him banned

Then again, I have trouble with airline abreviations, other than AA, CO, NW, and AC they seem to pick letter and numbers at random.

Damn I miss sig lines, mine used to be

    EmailKid

What the hell do I know, I'm a newbie for life

  • It's not FlyerTalk-ese. In my Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary (English, not Latin or FTese) "out of/from" is the first definition of "ex."

  • so high school latin didnt pay off on the SAT's

looks like it helped me out on FT :D
